Technology Today: Immortality at Reach
Technology Today: Immortality at Reach
Did you ever fantasized about being ‘Immortal’? ‘Immortal’ in the sense that you NEVER age. Age is connected to the degredation of both physical and mental performance. Deep in one’s heart, everyone doesn’t want their capabilities to degrade because of aging, right? ‘Beaty is in the youth’, a quote that render me in thought and yes, probably true. But what if—we are all ‘youthful’? Does age matter anymore? Present technology poses a solution to such problems. Through it, we will be able to convert illogically impossible scenario into a real-life dream of the history!
The people behind such technolgies doesn’t want to ‘play’ God. Rather, they want to set free from the limits that bound humanity. For the purpose of clearing up things, I’m setting a parameter. Everything written here should never be considered as an insult to any sanctuary of Religion. The sole purpose of this blog is to share to the online public what is ‘new’ today that cites life-chaging ideas.
What are these discoveries I’m talking about?
First, the discovery of the Telomere. Telomere is found at the end of a chromosome, it is said that the telomere is a collection of repetitive DNA. For every cell division it undergoes, its length shortens until the critical point is reached. This critical point would end the cell’s function to divide furthermore. This is where cell stops dividing and no new cells are formed; thus, we undergo aging and then at a particular time, our organs will cease to function. Death will surely be our end.
Everyone had heard of cancer cells, right? Let us consider this question, why does a cancer cell keeps dividing itself without reaching the phase where it should no longer divide? It is said that a cancer cell has a process of re-activating its telomerase. The enzyme telomerase then lengthens the telomeres by adding additional repetitive DNA at its end; thus, posponing the cells from reaching the critical point. Scientist are interested in uncovering the nature of these cancer cells. What is the reason behind cancer cell’s capability of continuos cell division? The answer to such question will present us to the solution of lengthening our own life span. Or much more, we could cease death itself.
Second one, the product of nanotechnology. Nanobots are simply tiny robots with its own DNA imbeded in it. Nanobots are still undergoing further research and improvements till today. The possible functions of this minute things are: (1) cell repair (most cells reach a time where repairing oneself ceases), and (2) it acts as one of the body’s defense mechanism against foreign substances and invading microorganism. These nanobots are capable of eliminating cancer cells and other diseases. Medical implications of these “small but terrible” things are yet to be created.
Scientist had travelled ‘far and wide’ and dived into the depths of the vast ocean. For the sole purpose of finding a single unique pearl. This unique pearl represents the masterpiece about to be born from science, through the aide of technology. Would you put your hope unto this ideas? or would you rather be someone who will say “Somethings are not meant to be touched”? Would you rather say Don’t play God? or will you let them continue? Whatever you chose, it is just a matter of time till we get the results.
