Speeding up and tweaking your Internet connection is one of those subjects that continues to baffle so many people. The subject matter has become cluttered with misinformation, rumor, and confusion. It’s like adding accessories to your car to make it run faster except you are adding things to your computer. If the work is done right, your car will benefit from it. If it’s done the wrong way which there are a number of ways to, then it will do more harm than good.

Most people blame all of their connection speed problems on their modems but they are only one part of the connection process. Factors such as processor speed, available RAM, the condition of your phone line, the distance of your location from the telephone company, your ISP’s equipment, Web traffic, and a site’s popularity affects how quickly you can navigate the Internet from your home computer. Despite all of these numerous obstacles, here are a few steps to getting speedier connections:

The first thing you want to do is perform some basic maintenance on your computer. Run tasks such as a disk defrag, scan disk, virus scan, spy ware scan, and clean up your recycle bin. More often than not a slow Internet connection is a sign that your computer is infected with viruses or other malware. Try deleting old and temporary files which are no longer used. The free space on your C: drive should always be than 10% of the total size or twice the installed RAM. A computer with regular maintenance operates much better than one with none at all. You may just need to perform an upgrade on your computer. If your computer is old and slow, it doesn’t matter how fast of an Internet connection you have, your whole experience online and off will be slow. Next, look into optimizing your cache or temporary Internet files. This improves your overall Internet performance by not having the same file downloaded again and again. If a website puts a graphic on every page of their site, your computer will then only download it when it changes. If you delete the temporary files, that graphic needs to be downloaded again. If the cache is disabled, every time you visit that page, your computer will download that graphic every time. Look for the “Tools” button at the top of your web browser window and choose “Internet Options”. Once there, click on the “Settings” button next to Temporary Internet Files and set “Check for newer versions” to “Automatically”. The amount of disk space to use should be 2% of your total disk size or 512 MB. Don’t bypass your router to increase connection speeds. Your average routers come with a firewall which makes it very difficult for hackers to access your home computer. If you don’t use or need wireless internet then I recommend connecting your computer directly to the router. Your router will slow down your connection but only by a few milliseconds. Is it really worth having your computer hacked into for that increase in connection speed? Maybe you just suffer from poor internet connection service at your home. Call your Internet service provider and speak to a technician who can check from there without sending out a a tech rep.

As much as no two pupils are exactly the same, there is a need to deliver a learning plan that will help every child.  Schools cannot afford to give one on one tuition to every pupil so there needs to be a focus on the general needs of a class.

Once this has been put in place it would be hoped that smaller groups of pupils could be given additional work or support relevant to their needs but by and large, a class of pupils should have enough in common that a lesson plan can be delivered to all of them.  One way for a teacher to spread their time better around the pupils is to take advantage of educational technology.  There are many demands on teachers in the modern era so anything which can provide a teacher with more time or allow them to provide a more focussed assistance to pupils has to be considered of benefit.

One of the biggest drains on a teacher’s time has to be the marking of a pupil’s work.  After all, if a teacher has a class of 30 pupils to consider, this is a lot of marking to get through.  Using technology can remove much of this work from a teacher and make life a lot easier for them.  Many schools are encouraging class based exams to take place with pupils entering their answers into a student response device.

This device will allocate each answer to the pupil in question and at the end of the exam will calculate the total marks.  The teacher then only has to look at the results page on their computer or laptop to see how each pupil scored.  This also takes away the opportunity for human error, hopefully making each set of results even more accurate.  Introducing student response devices into the classroom helps teachers and it should allow for a more accurate reading of a pupil’s level of knowledge.

These results can then be acted upon by the teacher to provide a more focussed learning plan depending on the knowledge or knowledge gaps of the class.  This is why using educational technology should not be considered as being a threat to a teacher; it can be a tremendous ally in the educational system.  The most important thing in the educational process is getting results and if introducing educational technology can help pupils perform better and for teachers to have more time, it is something that should be considered by as many schools as possible.

How to Obtain Microsoft Office Certification and Which Office Certification is Right for You
Microsoft now offers two current versions of the prestigious Microsoft Office Certification. The version and name of the certification depends on the version of Microsoft Office you wish to certify on. This article will focus on the Microsoft Office Specialist certification. The Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is for individuals who use and wish to certify on Microsoft Office 2003 products. There are seven possible MOS exams available. From the seven possible exams there are two possible titles, or designations, a person taking MOS exams can earn. The designations are Microsoft Office Specialist and / or Master Microsoft Office Specialist. The credential you earn depends on which of the seven exams you take and how many of the exams you take. After passing any of the above exams you are certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist and you can at that time use the MOS designation after your name, as well as the MOS logo on business cards, resumes, etc.
When you pass four specific MOS exams you will earn the Master Microsoft Office Specialist certification / designation. The required exams for Master MOS status are:
1. Microsoft Word 2003 Expert
2. Microsoft Excel 2003 Expert

Step One: Microsoft Office Training – Through training you will learn the Microsoft Office applications you will be tested on. The tests are difficult, so you want to make sure the training you choose is comprehensive. You should also look for training that covers the exam objectives. There are questions that appear on the bottom of the page. The application you are testing on will open on the top of the screen and you will have to “do” the necessary tasks to answer the questions. The exams are also timed. Each test is 50 minutes, so you want to be sure you are quick at doing each exam objective. Training that includes hands-on practice will help you learn and retain the information.
Step Two: Practice Exams – Several vendors sell Microsoft Office Specialist practice exams. These practice exams simulate the test environment. It allows you to become familiar with the types of questions they will ask you, the way the questions are worded, the expected responses, and it is a great way to refine your skills before taking the actual test.
Step Three: Schedule and Take the Test – The Microsoft Office Specialist exams are administered through official Certiport Testing centers. You must go to a physical location to take the test.
