Internet Connection Services in India

Broadband services in India have almost reached its milestones. Internet connections through broadband play a vital role in India for development in science and technology.

Let us see briefly about the major internet broadband service providers in India.

Reliance Broadband

Reliance broadband connection is provided by Reliance Communications. The founder is late Mr.Dhirubhai Hirachand Ambani. Internet connections are available with Reliance in both wireless and wired broadband. Initially, the service was poor and now Reliance has improved its services to customers and at present customers are satisfactory with the performance of broadband connections.

Tata Indicom Broadband

Tata Indicom is one of the popular broadband service providers in India. The connection cost is more compared to other broadband connection providers, but still the quality and service are best compared to others. This service is provided by Tata Indicom broadband which was incorporated in 1996. This service also provides both wireless and wired internet broadband services. Global accessibility is one of the key features in Tata Indicom broadband.

Airtel Broadband

Airtel Broadband is a quality service from Bharathi Airtel. It has operations in about 19 countries, especially in Asia and Africa. The cost of service is comparatively more than Reliance but still the quality and services offered are excellent. Airtel also offers both wired and wireless connections. The tariff plans are very wide compared to Tata Indicom and Reliance services.

Sify Broadband

Sify broadband is comparatively less popular in India than Reliance, Tata and Airtel. The main reason is its poor marketing strategies. Though the plans are quite attractive and cheap, the company has not penetrated enough into markets. Still, some corporate companies go with Sify connections since its services are good for corporate projects.

Still some other connection broadband providers are available in India, especially like BSNL, MTNL etc. The service quality of them is worse compared to the above mentioned providers.

Troubleshoot Internet Connection Problems For Seamless Browsing

Article by James Madison

Computer and Internet has become a part and parcel in the 21st century. From kids to working professionals, all use Internet for various purposes. Right from research to shopping now everything can be done online. The number of internet users has increased significantly and more or less every user comes across Internet connection problems at some point of time. This is a very annoying experience and when it happens people generally start looking for an expert for Internet help. But many of these problems could be solved simply without the help of an expert. This article gives you some tips and basic knowledge so that you can troubleshoot Internet connection problems to enjoy seamless browsing.

Whenever you come across any type of Internet problem, you need to check if all the relevant cables are connected properly or not. This is the first troubleshooting step. Many a times, loose or unconnected cables cause Internet connectivity problems. You should also have a closer look at the cables physically and ensure they are not broken or damaged.

Cables are connected appropriately and they are not damaged, still the problem is occurring. In this case, you need to make sure that the Internet connection is working. In order to check this, you need another computer. Connect the Internet with another computer and if you find there is no problem in accessing the Internet, then there is problem with your computer’s settings. And if the same problem occurs with another computer, then there is a problem from your ISP.

You need to use the Windows troubleshooting assistance on your computer for troubleshooting the problem on your computer, if any. To resolve connectivity problems, Run Microsoft’s Network Diagnostics for Windows XP and the Diagnose & Repair option in Windows Vista and Windows. These tools are very useful to fix most of the connectivity problems.

If you are using a modem to get connected, check the lights on the modem. Make sure that everything on your end is correct (cables, etc) and then call your internet service provider. It is also important to check and confirm the IP setting. Talk to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and get the IP address and ensure your PC is having the same IP.

Are you using wireless router? Then try to connect to the Internet directly without using the wireless router. If you don’t have any problem in connecting, the problem might be with the wireless settings. Access the router’s settings page and have a look at the settings.

If you find none of these steps is working for you and you are having internet connection problems, it is recommended to get in touch with a PC support provider.

Sharing an Internet connection on Windows XP

Article by WSS

If you have a LAN (two or more computers connected in a network) with an Internet connection (via a modem, cable, …) it may be worthwhile to make the Internet accessible to other computers LAN by installing software that will serve as a proxy, that is to say, which provides access to network computers by proxy, by redirecting information.

However, the greater the number of users is important the more bandwidth for each of them will be low because the users share the flow … So if eight people are connected to an ADSL 512 Kb / s, there will be only 64 kb / s per person, 6 or 7 kb / s per person …There are many software that can perform this function, however, Windows 98 and Windows XP natively offer such functionality.

Assume then that the connection is already configured on the PC with internet access. This computer (PC # 1) will act as a NAT router while the other network computers will be clients (PC 2, 3 and 4 …).We will select the address and 192.168.0.1 for PC # 1 that has the Internet connection (the other will respectively IP addresses 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4 …).Server on Windows XP/2000

To allow Internet Connection Sharing on the host (the one with an Internet connection), just click the right mouse button on “My Network Places” on the desktop and choose Properties from the menu. Right-click on the icon for your connection and choose Properties. Then click the Advanced tab and check Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection and the other two boxes. Then confirm by clicking OK and close the Network Connection window.Clients on Windows XP/2000

The next step is to configure the gateway on the clients. The gateway is the IP address of PC # 1 that has Internet connection, or 192.168.0.1 in our case.

In the “Property of Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)” in the “General” tab, type 192.168.0.1. as a gateway for each client. Still in the “General” tab, click “Use the following DNS server address” and enter the following information:

Preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1Alternate DNS server: nothing

They correspond to the DNS (Domain Name Server) primary and secondary.Windows Server 98

To share the connection of a computer running Windows 98, you must first install the service “Internet Connection Sharing”. For this we need to go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add Remove Programs / Windows Setup / Internet Tools and then select “Internet Connection Sharing”. Confirm by clicking “ok” and specify the directory of the CD-ROM of Windows 98 when prompted.Clients on Windows 98

It is necessary to configure the clients (other computers on the network) so they know that the connection is made through the PC1. In the “bridge” the window “TCP / IP Properties”, enter 192.168.0.1 as a new gateway and be sure to click on Add. In the “DNS Configuration”, click “Enable DNS” and enter the following information:

Host: Name of the PC1 / / for all PCs (except PC1 itself)Domain:

In “DNS Server Search Order”, put “192.168.0.1″ and click “Add”.

Home Wireless Internet Connection – Speed and Security Tips

Article by Michael Tait

We live in a fast paced world and so we need a fast home Internet connection speed. If you work part time or full time from home, then it becomes essential to have a home wireless Internet connection which can compete with broadband connection speeds.

Wireless home Internet should provide you with bandwidth speeds of 10 to 20 mbps. Although they are easy to set-up and maintain, you must secure your home wireless Internet. There are two reasons for this; first, you wouldn’t want anyone to tap into your home wireless connection and carry out illegal activities, and secondly, even if your connection is not used for illegal purposes, someone else using it will significantly slow down your Internet access speed.

Home Wireless Internet Connection Speed

Normally, a wireless Internet connection will have an antenna or router installed somewhere in the house. There are a couple of ways using you can boost the speed of your connection. First make sure that you are the only person using your own connection. If it is not protected by a password, other people could also be using it at causing a drop in speed.

The second thing to take a look at is your computer. There are a many malicious programs that can eat into the bandwidth of your connection. To fix this issue you need to install a good quality security suite and check out the software program that enables your computer or laptop to get connected to the net. If it is not updated or not intended for your computer, then you could see a considerable drop in the connection speed.

Home Wireless Internet Connection Security

Turn off The Router When Not In Use – By turning off the router, you not only save a little bit of electricity, but you also guarantee that no other person other than the authorized ones have access to your connection.

Do Not Use Default Settings – By using default settings on your router, you are not securing your connection. This means anyone can connect their computer to your connection making your Internet connection exposed. Set the encryption level to the highest security and do not use obvious passwords.

Firewall Router – Your home wireless Internet security can be breached not only from someone near by, but it is also vulnerable from the Internet itself. In order to guarantee security from such attacks, turn on the router’s firewall. Only data requests made by your computer are valid and any other is invalid. This is one of the best ways to keep hackers out and secure your home wireless Internet.

Keep A Check On The Router Status – Your router continuously displays the number of computers or devices connected to your home wireless connection. Try to keep an eye on which computers are using your connection. If you find someone has managed to connect, immediately change the passwords and settings of your router.

Securing your home Internet connection has become a necessity these days; not only because it costs you a loss of speed, but because if someone uses it for illegal purposes, you will be held accountable.

Ubuntu 9.10 Internet Connection Problems Solved

So I just got the new Ubuntu CD today. I installed it, and when it booted up I didn’t get no internet. So after several attempts and reading hours worth of Linux talk in the forums and webpages. I found out how to get internet with the new Ubuntu 9.10. Its actually quite simple.

( this is the easy fix for people who are using either Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver for use with Broadcom’s BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, andBCM4322-based hardware.)

Unlike the people in the forums I will break it down in dummy english for you.

start up Ubuntu

go to system->administration->hardware drivers

you should see a few options. ( if you do not see options, this means that Ubuntu is not recognizing your hardware. You may need to visit the Ubuntu Forums and search your query there. You should just have to download a program that allos it to recognize and use the hardware you already ahve on your computer. )

select the one that says  Broadcom STP Wireless Driver

CLICK on ACTIVATE

now go to your network icon ( upper right hand side, looks like a cellphone tower with a few bars)

left click on that

menu should pull down and give you options ( at very bottom of that menu ) it should say

Connect to hidden wireless networks.

Fill out the info it askes for like SSID and password.

And you should be all set.

If you have questions please feel free to message me as I am always here or leave me a comment.

Steps to take to restore an Internet connection

The first thing you want to try is to see if  you have a dial tone. You are going to try this by using your regular telephone line to call the local access number in which your modem is trying to connect with. You should hear a digital tone within seconds. It’s either your IP provider’s equipment is not working properly or you have accidentally dialed the wrong number.. Now if you are hearing a busy signal , you are now going to try using your modem to dial an alternate local access number.

Now you are going to want to check the working status of your modem. If you are sure that the local access number is working properly, you should now want to determine if the modem has  actually malfunctioned.

By following these steps you will be able to check the status of your modem.

Step 1 In the lower left corner of Windows find the Start button and click on it.

Step 2 From the list provided find Control Panel and click on it.

Step 3 From the selection provided on the Control Panel list, you are going to select the Performance and Maintenance category by clicking on it.  From there you are going to click the System icon.

Step 4 There is going to be a window that opens up, and from that you are going to click the tab labeled Hardware.

Step 5  Form that selection you are going to click the Device Manager button.

Step 6  When the device Manager window opens click on the plus sign(+) which is located next to the Modems category.

Step 7  When you have identified your modem from the selection, you are going to click on the name of your modem.

Step 8 After the next window opens, you are going to select the General tab by clicking on it. Locate the Device status heading. Now you should receive a message indicating whether your modem is working properly or not.

Step 9  If the message is telling you that the modem is not properly working or that it shows an error, you can try to uninstall the software that came with the modem. After you have completed uninstalling the software, reinstall the software again and try using the modem again.

Step 10 If the message is telling you that your modem is working correctly, check to see if the connection problems you are having is because  the your telephone cord is either loose or unplugged from the modem or your phone jack. Check your phone cord completely by checking the entire cord for cuts, dents or splits. Replace the phone cord if you notice any damages, then after it’s replaced , check your internet connection again.

Step 11 Now if the problem with your modem continues, it’s time to replace your modem.

Internet, modem, device, local access, connection, restore, phone cord,
