The Advancement of Technology Linking Cultures and Computers

With the advancement of technology people from different countries and cultures are able to connect with each other. People are also able to work from home via their computers and the internet. This is a great opportunity especially for those who are unable to work outside the home. There are numerous advantages to technology that links us through computers and the internet in ways that could not be achieved years ago.

Internet Banking

Prior to the Internet, it was virtually impossible to obtain an instant payment from someone for a specific product or service. You would have to wait on a direct deposit to the bank to clear; wait in line for a money wire or receive a money order in your regular mail box. Today, there are numerous banking services on the Internet that provide, not only instant payment, but credit card processing.
For personal use, online banking means being able to make a transfer from one account to another without going to your bank. Plus, you are able to log into your account anytime to check your account status. Computers and technology are linking people with needed personal services and in the business world, helping one another and increasing potential revenue.

Instant Calling Computer Technology

Large and small companies are cutting the cost of overhead with the use of technology. You can now call long distance and even internationally, through computers. The technology is so advanced that many of us do not even think about it when we plug in our headsets and click “call” from our computers.

You can use computers to talk with business associates, clients and friends without having to spend any additional money. Many people that operate their own business, set up specific conference times to talk with people and address business matters. Instead of having to wait a long time to connect with another culture or link with someone, you can simply use the technology that is available already on computers. Not only can you talk to friends and business associates, but if you have a web cam, you can also see the person you are talking to.

Computer Technology Can Reduce Advertising Costs

Now it is possible to bridge with other cultures and link with other people through a web page, blog or even emails. Advertising costs are significantly lower than in the past. More target customers are reached through computers. For example, a small independent entrepreneur would not have the funds to print a product catalog in color and mail over-seas to several thousand people. With computers, these other cultures can be reached for significantly lower advertising costs.

Computers are bridging cultures and linking people in the business world to provide the same opportunities to individual entrepreneurs that large corporate executives once dominated. There is some technology that is basic and simple to use. Other technologies require you to hire someone or learn in order to take advantage of them.

Technology has come a long way in being able to talk to people from all over the world, take care of banking or shopping or advance a business venture through the use of a computer.

Exeter Study Brings Brain-Like Computers A Step Closer To Reality

The development of ‘brain-like’ computers has taken a major step forward today with the publication of research led by the University of Exeter.
Published in the journal Advanced Materials and funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the study involved the first ever demonstration of simultaneous information processing and storage using phase-change materials.

This new technique could revolutionise computing by making computers faster and more energy-efficient, as well as making them more closely resemble biological systems.

Computers currently deal with processing and memory separately, resulting in a speed and power ‘bottleneck’ caused by the need to continually move data around. This is totally unlike anything in biology, for example in human brains, where no real distinction is made between memory and computation. To perform these two functions simultaneously the University of Exeter research team used phase-change materials, a kind of semi-conductor that exhibits remarkable properties.

Their study demonstrates conclusively that phase-change materials can store and process information simultaneously. It also shows experimentally for the first time that they can perform general-purpose computing operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. More strikingly perhaps it shows that phase-change materials can be used to make artificial neurons and synapses. This means that an artificial system made entirely from phase-change devices could potentially learn and process information in a similar way to our own brains.

Lead author Professor David Wright of the University of Exeter said: “Our findings have major implications for the development of entirely new forms of computing, including ‘brain-like’ computers. We have uncovered a technique for potentially developing new forms of ‘brain-like’ computer systems that could learn, adapt and change over time. This is something that researchers have been striving for over many years.”

This study focused on the performance of a single phase-change cell. The next stage in Exeter’s research will be to build systems of interconnected cells that can learn to perform simple tasks, such as identification of certain objects and patterns.

The University of Exeter is investing £ 230million in science and engineering through key issues, including functional materials.
The paper, published in Advanced Materials, can be accessed at: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/ (ISSN) 1521-4095/earlyview
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the UK’s leading agency for funding research in engineering and physical sciences. EPSRC invests around £ 800 million a year in research and postgraduate training, to help the nation handle the next generation of technological change.

The areas covered range from information technology to structural engineering, and mathematics to materials science. This research forms the basis for future economic development in the UK and improving everyone’s health, lifestyle and culture. EPSRC works alongside the Research Councils with responsibility for other areas of research. The Research Councils work collectively on issues of common concern via Research Councils UK.

Computers And Technology

Nowadays the usage of a computer and technology is very common. There are two ways to use this machine. First is input and second is output. There are many devices of input and output of this machine available. This appliance and its technology includes many parts like internet, computer networking, call center, telecommunications, software, web hosting and domain registration, mobile phones, hardware, its security. One of the more active areas in regard to computers and technology law involves issues stemming from copyright. When it comes to computers, the Internet and technology law, copyright issues have become very commonplace. Protecting copyright interests with the growth of the Internet has become particularly problematic.

Other Internet Tools and Software are available to fix problems involving the Internet when your machine becomes saddled with Spyware and Adware. These unwelcome programs enable outside individuals and companies to spy on your web browsing activities and invade your privacy. ‘Scan your Computer for Free’ programs are available to effectively eliminate these nasties. Also, most people are aware of virus infections in one’s PC and there are good AntiVirus programs, which will keep your PC safe. One of the reasons I make this statement is because someone mentioned in an article about the slicing of food on the kitchen in virtual reality and the sound of the knife in EOX (basically that is surround-a-sound) and the granularity (individual animated pixels) dividing the object and yes all that is good for action sequences, explosions, car crashes in video games,While you can use the same method as I stated above to find computer information and articles, you can do the same with technology information. The problem with that though is you can never really be sure the author knows what they are talking about.

Businesses that lease and finance their technology needs are often working better within their capital budgets. Simply speaking they can buy more and buy smarter. Many companies that are larger in size have balance sheet issues and ROA (return on assets) issues that are compelling. While computers and technology make it much easier to spend more time enjoying these kinds of leisurely activities, they also make it much easier for us to lose connection with real people. By purchasing insurance online, you’re saving time and effort, but you’re also losing the important, yet overlooked, benefit of speaking with an insurance agent one-on-one, face-to-face.The automation and computerization in food processing units is facing lots of challenges if they are used nearby water catastrophic effects on any computer system. Most food processing units prefer waterproof computers to protect their computer systems from drenching in the production area.

New Technology May Allow Instant On Computers: No Booting

‘Instant on’ computing

Materials researchers say rebooting soon may be a thing of the past

The ferroelectric materials found in today’s “smart cards” used in subway, ATM and fuel cards soon may eliminate the time-consuming booting and rebooting of computer operating systems by providing an “instant-on” capability as well as preventing losses from power outages.

Researchers supported by a National Science Foundation (NSF) nanoscale interdisciplinary research team award and three Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers at Cornell University, Penn State University and Northwestern University recently added ferroelectric capability to material used in common computer transistors, a feat scientists tried to achieve for more than half a century. They reported their findings in the April 17 journal Science.

Ferroelectric materials provide low-power, high-efficiency electronic memory. Smart cards use the technology to instantly reveal and update stored information when waved before a reader. A computer with this capability could instantly provide information and other data to the user.

Researchers led by Cornell University materials scientist Darrell Schlom took strontium titanate, a normally non-ferroelectric variant of the ferroelectric material used in smart cards, and deposited it on silicon–the principal component of most semiconductors and integrated circuits–in such a way that the silicon squeezed it into a ferroelectric state.

“It’s great to see fundamental research on ordered layering of materials, or epitaxial growth, under strained conditions pay off in such a practical manner, particularly as it relates to ultra-thin ferroelectrics” said Lynnette Madsen, the NSF program director responsible for the Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Team award.

The result could pave the way for a next-generation of memory devices that are lower power, higher speed and more convenient to use. For everyday computer users, it could mean no more waiting for the operating system to come online or to access memory slowly from the hard drive.

“Several hybrid transistors have been proposed specifically with ferroelectrics in mind,” said Schlom. “By creating a ferroelectric directly on silicon, we are bringing this possibility closer to realization.”

More research is needed to achieve a ferroelectric transistor that would make “instant on” computing a reality, but having the materials in direct contact, free of intervening reaction layers, is an important step.

###

The paper’s first author, Maitri P. Warusawithana, is a postdoctoral associate in Schlom’s lab. The research team also includes scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Motorola Corp., Ames Laboratory and Intel Corp.

Along with NSF, the Office of Naval Research and the Department of Energy funded the research.

Five Reasons Why Some People Love Macintosh Computers

If you’ve never owned an Apple computer, you don’t know what you’re missing. On the other hand, if you regularly use Macintosh computers, you understand that once you have a Mac, you’ll never go back. An Apple Macintosh – whether it’s a MacBook, a Mac Pro, or an iMac – takes personal computing to a whole new level. I bought my first iMac in 1998, have upgraded twice, and am still happy as a proverbial clam. Here, then are five reasons to love the Apple Macintosh.

1. Cool elegance. If there’s one thing Steve Jobs knows how to do, it’s designing electronics that are ultra-cool yet beautifully elegant. Why has a cumbersome big box desktop computer when you can have everything you need in an elegant iMac? Behind that clear, bright 16:10 aspect ratio monitor is the entire computer, including a DVD drive and a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor. There’s even a webcam built into the iMac so you can video chat or video conference whenever the whim strikes.

2. Intuitive functionality. Even though Windows copied the friendly desktop interface from Apple Macintosh, they still haven’t been able to get it right. Navigating the Mac’s interface is truly intuitive, engaging, and just downright fun. With a mobile computing product like the MacBook, you can take full computing functionality wherever you go. And, wherever you’ll go, you’ll always be connected, since the MacBook automatically finds nearby wireless networks and gives you nearly instant online access.

3. Digital living. Macintosh computers are designed to embrace the digital lifestyle. MacBooks and iMacs come with iLife, a wonderful array of applications that let you effortlessly share photo albums, record podcasts and songs, and even create and edit movies. You can even publish your creations on the Web with a single click. How cool is that?

4. Bug-free. If you’ve been wrestling with Vista the past few months (or any other Windows operating system, for that matter), you don’t know the meaning of freedom. Macintosh computers’ operating systems are bug-free, and as for upgrades, you get to choose when to receive software update notifications, and always have the choice of updating now or in the future. Mac simply isn’t intrusive; you get to control technology, instead of having technology control you.

5. Workhorse. Macintosh computers are more than a way to frolic in your spare time. They’re also workhorses. For years, graphic artists and publishers have almost exclusively used Macs for work. With the Mac Pro, you can get Adobe Creative Suite 3, a suite of tools specifically designed for creative professionals. Whether you’re a web designer, a graphic artist, an art director, or a video professional, Adobe Creative Suite 3 will make your work easier, better, and more fun.

There are those who say that Macintosh computers are limited in that much of the available software is only compatible with PCs. My experience is that my Mac can do anything a PC can do – and do it better. But for those diehards who insist that they can’t live without Windows, the next version of Mac OSX, Leopard, will allow you to install Windows XP on the Mac. Right now, you can run Windows in emulation mode…although for the life of me, I don’t understand why you would want to!

Computers maintenance tips

When using a computer, you should use it with care so that it won’t get damage. You should know the basics to computer care so that your computer can stay in top shape. When it comes to computer, you should turn it on and off the right way. This means you should not turn the computer off without shutting down window first. If you just push the power button to turn off, you can lose data and damage your hard drive. If you pull out the power plug, you can also damage your hard drive. You should always shut it down the proper way. Your computer can crash if you don’t shut it down properly. Your hard drive can suffer a lot. In this case, you can de-fragment your computer so it can recover from some damages to the hard drive.

You should always save your data on a zip or external hard drive because you can lose your data if your computer doesn’t work anymore. This is important for those who have important files on their computer like client’s information or payment data. It’s never safe enough to store everything on the hard drive. You can try storing data in your email addresses too. This way you will always have the data. You should not take up too much hard drive space because it can slow down your computer. Once a month, you can clean up your disk and run a de-fragment. You can also clean up your system with a virus scan from Norton anti-virus or lava soft Ad-aware. Viruses and pops up can slow down your computer.

When starting your window, you should configure programs to not start so that it can save some memory. Once in awhile, you should delete all programs not used so you can free up some space on your hard disk. Free space can make your computer operate faster. You should update your operating system when it’s available so you can speed up your computer. You should install an anti-virus and a firewall at all time if you browse the internet. You should keep your computer in top shape. When you can afford it, you should buy a new computer every now and then so it can perform better.

The Advantages of Computers in Business

Multitask Capability

The computer’s use as a multimedia tool allows businesses to be more independent. Computers link various technologies such as interactive video, CD-ROM, audio, graphics, printing and faxing capability, as well as numerous programs that can handle highly complex tasks. This can eliminate the need for outsourcing by allowing staff to handle jobs that would have previously been given to external parties. This keeps the majority of company operations in-house and empowers the business to be more self-sufficient and less vulnerable to failure due to mistake by outside parties.

Cost Effective

Emerging innovations make for a more affordable technology that can be used by companies to cut costs both for office equipment and staff payroll. Likewise, potentially lucrative corporations can be started with little overhead cost. Email decreases hefty postage costs, videoconferencing may reduce the cost of travel, and for many businesses, software eliminates the cost of employing pricey accounting departments. All of this trickles down to the consumer who ultimately is provided with a more affordable product or service.

Increased Access

Computers can globalize the market of a particular business. The customer base can be as large as the supplier can manage for a low cost, if any. Small community social-networks can be linked to regional and national ones with greater ease, in addition to connecting individuals to vital resources. This keeps the market fresh with beneficial innovations and empowers word-of-mouth marketing for small business to compete with the big dogs.

Organization

Computers allow for the use of different kinds of software that can better equip businesses to keep track of files, deadlines and events and organize all of their information in a way that is easily retrievable. Likewise, storage is inexpensive and takes up little space. The ability to organize files more efficiently can be one of the most influential contributions computer use can provide a corporation for better time management, and as we all know, “time is money.”

Warning

Computer failures due to power outages, crashes or viruses can devastate the operations of major corporations and bring them to a standstill. This can be a significant problem when it comes to the development and distribution of products that contribute to the natural flow of society. This should be taken into account before starting any business that might rely solely on the use of computer technology. It is always wise to have a back-up source of power and file-keeping.
