Circuits play an extremely important role in business networks. With industry trends continuing to migrate more and more towards IP-based networks, the importance of the outside connection to the world is greater than ever. And the circuit is the gatekeeper of that connection!

Think of it this way. If there is a problem with the circuit, then the entire site’s connection to everything outside of the location is gone in a flash! That means the loss of money, time and business production until that circuit is working again.

When that happens, how important is the circuit then? And more importantly how important is the technology rollout company’s expertise and ability to test and service the issue at the site level?

FOC date. MPOE. Hard loop. Soft loop. DSX. These are just a few of the terms used when communicating with Carriers, LECs and ISPs. Without this knowledge, it would be like an American in Paris ordering dinner from a waiter who only understands minimal English. It takes you longer to order, you run a high risk of not getting what you asked for and you still have to communicate with them to get your check. Plus don’t forget the tip!

My point is this: if your technology rollout company cannot speak the “circuit language” and effectively communicate to their circuit counterpart, it will ultimately affect the speed of your rollout.

A simple test is to ask your technology rollout company if they know what the following terms mean: B8ZS, ESF or PVCs. Be sure to time them and make sure they aren’t simply Googling it!

2. Circuit Testing Services

Circuits are delivered daily by the gazillions (okay, maybe not quite that many, but there are a lot!). Because of this, occasionally the circuit is “blind accepted” which means that verification of the circuit at the time of install was not completed, but rather was still accepted as not to disrupt the circuit rollout schedule. Thus, when something goes wrong at the time of equipment installation at the site, it can affect your rollout schedule. Not to mention all the finger pointing that occurs to determine whose problem it is. Think of the wasted time that could be used to actually fix the problem!

An experienced technology rollout company has a full suite of circuit testing services and proper equipment readily available. This allows the deployment company to work with the Carriers and LECs to ensure that once their services for the site are complete (whether it be equipment installation, a demarc extension, or other related work), the technology rollout company can then test the circuit all the way through to ensure that everything is working properly.

You’d also be surprised at how often technicians spend time trying to resolve a circuit issue at the end of a demarc extension rather than at the building’s Demarc (demarcation point). Thus, a key to testing a circuit when issues arise is to always go directly to the circuit’s Demarc and test at this point which eliminates all other onsite cabling and equipment issue possibilities. This procedure should be instituted for each site deployment on your rollout schedule.

3. Monitored Onsite Technicians

In order to test the circuit and provide immediate issue rectification, you have to have experienced onsite technicians available to do it. But what is experience? A doctor may be an experienced surgeon, but has not performed a particular procedure. In those cases, what does she do? The answer is simple: she consults with an expert in the procedure and/or has a knowledgeable assistant to help with the operation.

It is the same with onsite rollout technicians. It is simply unrealistic when performing hundreds or thousands of site jobs to expect all technicians employed to know every aspect of the requirements – whether they include installing a specific piece of equipment or performing circuit testing. Each site is a world unto itself and comes with its own unique requirements for project success. Thus, the expertise of the technology rollout company comes into play and accounts for any unexpected issues (think Murphy’s Law!) that may occur during a multi-site nationwide technology rollout.

I have mentioned this in the past and will continue to emphasize it until every man, woman, and child can recite it from heart: the technology rollout company must directly monitor each technician at every site in order to provide sufficient support and guarantee quality assurance. This is called the Direct Tech Communication Channel and it is the most efficient way for the deployment company to ensure the success of your technology rollout.

ConclusionAs it becomes easier to install IP technology in the field, the ability for multiple services to be deployed in a single or minimized number of truck rolls increases as it relates to less than one day deployments (Category 1). And as I’ve stated in the past, fewer truck rolls means lower project costs for you!

Thus, having onsite technicians that are available to not only install equipment, but provide testing and provisioning services for circuits on the site level becomes of even greater importance.

So the next time you’re looking to employ a technology rollout company for your multi-site technology rollout, be sure to check that they have:

1. Experience with Carriers, LECs and ISPs and can speak the “circuit language”

2. A full suite of circuit testing services

3. Direct monitoring capabilities of all onsite field technicians

Another example are the consumption of fossil fuels. These fuels are burned to run factories and automobiles or electricity for homes. As technology grows, there are also growth in the consumption of these fossil fuels. Unfortunately, our environment will take millions of years before it can produce or form new fossil fuels naturally.

There are studies that shows that the earth is running out of fossil fuel supplies. Other believes that earth’s supply will be end up within 100 years, if this time will come, people must have to find other source of fuel.

A harm done by technology can sometimes be repaired by another technology, but still there are dangers that the latter technology may cause another problem or problems.

An example of this is an atomic power plant. Atomic power plant can produce atomic energy. This energy will not use fossil fuels, making our fossil fuels safe from consumption.

The problem is that the atomic energy produces radio active waste which are dangerous for living organisms. An atomic power plant could also be subjected into an atomic explosion by accident.

Scientist are searching for new sources of energy. One of this is the plan to use satellites that will collect solar energy from the sun. The energy that will be gathered would be sent for a receiving station on earth. This time the solar energy would be changed into electricity. this technology indeed might become a major energy source to be used in the future.

The makeup of the human body is quite unique. It is a blend of the tangible and the intangible, the physical and the meta physical, working in tandem, everyday to produce a machine of efficient proportions that cannot be emulated by science and technology. While science wondered at the brilliance of the human body, we soon realised that besides disease and the natural progression of old age (inevitable to perfection), there are other cogs and bad bolts in the great machine of the human body that we were not aware of.

And these imperfections lay within the human mind. All these discoveries preceded the excavation of the human mind and the discovery of the pre conscious. Now more popularly called the ‘inner mind’ or the subconscious, science discovered that it was the controlling entity that decided on the spirit and the soul of an individual. How we behave, how we spoke, we acted, our reactions to situation, our addictions, our phobias and how we utilised our brain power – all were decided in the subconscious mind and these instructions were built up over years of sensory exposure during the developmental years as a child. Let me give you an example of how you can use subliminal technology to combat this and how the mind works. Let us take the topic of phobias first.

The prime example is a man, 27 years old, physically fit but deathly afraid of the water. Hydrophobophobia. This man cannot look at a swimming pool or be near the ocean without breaking into a sweat, feeling nervous or have the irresistible feeling of fear. Why is this? This man can empower himself to rid his mind of these associations and fears with subliminal technology – technology that can reach down into his mind, remove these fears and associations and plant new messages and thoughts. Set timely notes or inspirational quotes in your mobile phone, computer, PDA etc that will keep you motivated on your path to success. For example, you can set up a new quote everyday on your cell phone that you may see every morning when you get up.

Try avoiding going for meetings as much as possible. Use e-mail, chat, text messaging and phone calls as much as possible. When someone requests you to meet him/her, always ask yourself these Three Questions:

1. Is it beneficial to meet this person?2. Can this work not be done through e-mail, phone, chat etc?3. If there is no way out but meeting this person, can I call him/her to the my office/home at the time that is most convenient for me?

If none of these options work out,then go meet this person but do ensure that you do not forget to do your list of daily tasks.Warning: Do not stop meeting everyone and turn into a social recluse.

A study a couple of years ago found that 63% of executives were making fewer business trips because of technology.

Instead of a plane trip, face-to-face meetings and a plane trip back, they used email, videoconferencing, or online meetings, according to the Accountemps study.

If you’re a manager who’s spending less time with a suitcase and more with a mouse, you’ll want to pay attention to the nature of the media we use, and especially when sending important messages.

A few years ago we heard a lot about etiquette in electronic messaging (netiquette) on the Internet, about needing to be conscious of how messages might be misconstrued by receivers. One of the ideas to come out of that effort was emoticons, little text symbols that aimed to make up for the loss of facial expressions and body language.

Emoticons and netiquette have pretty much disappeared, but the world of electronic communication still can be a dangerous place.

And especially dangerous if the stakes are high, as they’re likely to be when managers communicate this way.

So, let’s further explore some issues that arise when we communicate electronically, rather than face-to-face.

In my limited experience with videoconferencing, for example, I found I had to work harder just catch the words, which reduced the amount facial expression information I took in. And, if the camera adjusted to take in more facial expressions, then some body language was lost.

Think, too, about the differences in messages sent by email versus those sent as conventional printed letters. Email certainly leads to faster responses and greater efficiency. However, when sending a printed letter we proofread it both on the screen and in print.

And, the time between our initial thoughts and sending the letter is longer. That provides time for second thoughts, sober or otherwise, thoughts that might be wiser or better expressed.

Here’s one more challenge: I recently looked at the idea of being an online seminars facilitator. Participants would take part through their computers. In addition to getting a voice feed, they would also watch the screen, which would be divided into three active sections. One portion would carry my notes, another would show reader questions, and a third would show something else.

As the presenter, I think I could handle the sending. But, how would receivers handle these flows of information? In person, it’s easy to watch a speaker, see her slides on screen, and listen to her at the same time. But, is it the same taking in all this information when it comes through a computer screen and speakers?

Don’t get me wrong. I like new technologies, not because they’re replacing something else, but because they offer new options. Whether through access, price, or interactivity level, new technology opens doors to communicators.

But, we need to think about the implications for receivers when we communicate through new media. Come to think of it, didn’t Marshall McLuhan write the book on this a generation ago?

In summary: With more managers communicating through new technologies, rather than travel and face-to-face meetings, we need to consider what can happen to important messages when they are transmitted through the new media.
